What is Seven Oaks Healthy Living?
Seven Oaks Healthy Living is a Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative that is funded by Manitoba Health for five years. We believe that it is very important to make healthy living an easier choice for people who live in our community, through addressing issues of access to these opportunities and increasing opportunities in the community. We define “healthy living” as active living, healthy eating, and reducing or eliminating tobacco use.
The activities of Seven Oaks Healthy Living will be of potential benefit to all residents of Seven Oaks, however we intend to situate activities in areas where access is the most problematic, either due to lack of local facilities, income barriers, or cultural needs.
Project Objectives
The project objectives of Seven Oaks Healthy Living are:
• To increase access to healthy living opportunities in Seven Oaks through making active living, healthy eating, and quit smoking programs available in neighbourhoods of Seven Oaks; • To achieve the above through work with community partners, in an effort to make the best use of existing facilities, programs, and talents in our community; • To create a “culture of health” in Seven Oaks; and • To create a healthy living ideology that is sustaining.
